We are building the next generation of engineering design tools, changing the supply chain, the stocks, assembly requirements and embracing complex geometries. Metal additive manufacturing enables to manufacture parts, from virtual 3D models by building the component layer-upon-layer until the part is complete. In comparison with traditional manufacturing processes, in which one starts with a block of material and removes unwanted material until one is left with the desired part, additive manufacturing starts with nothing and builds the part one layer at a time by ‘printing’ each new layer on top of the previous one, until the part is complete.
In the modern global supply chain, the driving focus has been to locate manufacturing in regions of the world that will provide low-cost labor. This action has led to companies focusing on how to transport/ship the components produced in the lowest economical way.
